TRIDENTINE LATIN MASS

Cardinal Joseph ZEN, SDB, has granted permission for the biweekly Tridentine Latin Mass held on alternate Saturdays at 3.00pm at the school chapel, 3/F, Cheung Sha Wan Catholic Secondary School, 533 Fuk Wing Street, Cheung Sha Wan, Kowloon, to be celebrated as an anticipated Sunday Mass, following the Roman Missal and the Roman Calendar promulgated in 1962. This arrangement is made at the request of the participants and for their spiritual benefit.
The regular schedule of the above Mass is available at the website:

http://tridentine.catholic.org.hk.

(Note: The so-called ˇ§Priestly Fraternity of St. Pius Xˇ¨ regularly celebrates the Tridentine Mass in Hong Kong. This community was established by the late Archbishop Marcel LEFEBVRE. The French prelate strongly opposed the reforms of Vatican II and was excommunicated in 1988 by the Apostolic See for performing a schismatic act by consecrating several bishops without pontifical mandate and contrary to the will of the Supreme Pontiff. Up till now the Apostolic See has not been able to bring the followers of Archbishop LEFEBVRE back to full communion with the Church. For this reason, the faithful should not take part in the Masses celebrated by the aforementioned Priestly Fraternity.
For the faithful who wish to take part in the Tridentine Mass for their own spiritual benefit, the Apostolic See has granted an indult for diocesan bishops to permit the celebration of this Mass regularly at specific churches, provided certain conditions are complied with. This indult Mass is the one permitted by Cardinal ZEN in the above Chancery Notice.)

Given at the Chancery Office, 22 May 2006.
