The “Chorus Cantate Domino” was established on 28th June 2009 by the blessings of Joseph Cardinal Zen, Bishop Emeritus of Hong Kong. The choir in-charge for singing in the Tridentine Latin Mass at 12:30pm every Sunday in Mary Help of Christians Church, To Kwa Wan.
Our Choir is to use sacred music to praise God – the Creator of the world.
Our Choir try to use our voice to bring the faithful closer to God during Mass. We also emphasize the progess in our spiritual lives, so that we may be more like and pleasing to our Lord Jesus Christ.
“Although the history of Chorus Cantate Domino is not long and our membership not any grander than other choirs, God has always provided our choir with musicians. Since we sing at the extraordinary form of the Mass, the songs we sing are in Latin. However, it does not mean that we are separated from the rest of the diocese. First of all, the reform of the Second Vatican Council never forbids Latin chants and songs. Also, as part of the church, our choir often cooperates with choirs both inside and outside our diocese. Apart from singing at Masses, our choir also participates in various other functions, such as an evening concert in honor of Our Lady at St. Lawrence’s Church in which choirs of several local Catholic schools also took part. Our choir is an active member of the diocese of Hong Kong and it will continue to serve the local Church for the greater glory of God—Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam!”
We welcome all baptised Catholics or catechumens to sing praise to God. For enquiry, you may ask Mr. Peter Chan or Ms. Maria Chan after Mass. Also you may send e-mail to tridentine.hk@gmail.com .
